21-Year-Old Nabbed With Illegally-Possessed Gun During Traffic Stop In Mount Vernon: Police

A 21-year-old man faces felony charges after he was caught illegally possessing a handgun during a traffic stop in Westchester, police announced.

Pennsylvania resident Jonathan Bellard of New Philadelphia was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 10 following an incident that happened in Mount Vernon, New York State Police announced. 

On the day of his arrest around 7 p.m., the 2021 Mercedes-Benz that Bellard was a passenger in was seen violating traffic and vehicle laws and was pulled over on South First Avenue in Mount Vernon, police said. 

Authorities then found Bellard in possession of a FN model 502 .22 caliber handgun and arrested him. He was charged with: 

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon;
  • Criminal possession of a firearm.

Bellard was later arraigned in the city of Mount Vernon Court and released on his own recognizance, police said.
